Eight elderly people died of Covid-19 complications in a nursery home in Patras, western Peloponnese in recent days. The overwhelming majority of them, seven in total, were not vaccinated.
Two more people in the same home died from causes other than the pandemic even though they were also tested positive to Covid-19, vice-governor of Achaia, Charalambos Bonanos, announced on Tuesday.
According to media, while for nursery residents vaccination is not mandatory, it is mandatory for staff since last August.
Bonanos said that controls showed that the staff was indeed vaccinated and registered at the relevant state system.
The vice-governor added that investigation in the specific -and well-known- nursing home continues and so do efforts to identify the infection source that triggered the outbreak. Authorities investigate also if the health protocol was kept by the book.
