Greece’s health authorities announced on Thursday 17,662 coronavirus cases and 106 deaths in past 24 hours. Six more deaths from previous days were incorporated today. The number of intubated Covid-patients in hospitals increased to 568.
The number of daily deaths remains over 100 in the last ten days.
Deputy Health Minister Mina Gaga said that the Sanofil vaccine against Covid-19 will be available in Greece as of mid April.
At the weekly Live Briefing on Thursday, health experts said that the Omicron variant prevails in the country, noting that 88% of the new hospital admission are of the Omicron.
There are currently 140,000 active cases across Greece.
There has been an increase of infection in Thrace and islands of the north Aegean Sea.
There has been a positivity increase in the last week due to testing increase, the experts said.
The number of those in hospitals with Covid-18 is decreasing, however, at low speed.
3,500 Covid-patients are currently in hospitals and 2.5% of them are children.
They suggested that the situation will improve in the upcoming weeks and the so-called “tough factors” – deaths and intubations – will decrease.
Regarding the lifting of restrictions, the experts reportedly said they will still need time for this and that the lifting will concern vaccinated citizens only.
