Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias said on Tuesday that he will be raising Greece’s concerns for the safety of the ethnic Greek minority in Ukraine at an emergency meeting of EU members states’ foreign ministers.
The Greek community in Ukraine numbers some 150,000 people, Dendias said.
End of January Dendias visited the region reassuring the ethic Greek communities of Greece’s support.
A few days later, one ethnic Greek was killed and two seriously injured when Ukrainian soldiers fired at them. However, the incident had no political motive, the communities said.
The Greek minority of Ukraine has its basis in the city of Mariupol, the second largest in the Donetsk Oblast.
