Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis announced on Friday that Greece will rebuild the maternity hospital of Mariupol that was bombed and destroyed last week by Russian forces.
“I want to express my abhorrence for what is happening in Ukraine and in Mariupol in particular, which has become a symbol of resistance. You know of our specific interest, as there are more than 100,000 Ukrainians of Greek decent living there. As a minimum show of support, once the hostilities are over, the Greek government will take on the reconstruction of the maternity hospital in Mariupol that was bombed,” Mitsotakis said.
He made also the announcement on Twitter:
Greece is ready to rebuild the maternity hospital in Mariupol, the center of the Greek minority in Ukraine, a city dear to our hearts and symbol of the barbarity of the war.

The Parliament of Ukraine thanked for the pledge:
Thank you for your support!

Sadly, the majority of hundreds of comments posted by Greeks under Mitsotakis’ post were negative due to the deteriorating situation of the public health sector in the country and upcoming changes that will make the whole even worse.
And this even though such actions are normally funded by a different budget – however, the frustrated society seems to care less.

Very nice gesture from Mitso… There will always be cynics no matter what you try and do
Is Greece so rich that it can afford to do that when the hospitals here are a mess ?
I found Nigel Farage,s account.
