COVID-MAP: Infections decrease but many Greek regions in “deep red”

Health authorities in Greece updated the COVID-MAP on April 7, 2022. The majority of regional units on the mainland and big islands to remain in highest Level 5 of coronavirus cases, marked as “deep red.”

While a week ago, March 31, the number of regional units in second highest lever, Level 4 “red”, were seven, they decreased to 4 on April 7.

The four-level preparedness epidemiological COVID-MAP corresponds to 5 colors (dark red, red, orange, yellow and green) based on epidemiological indicators used by the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) and the World Health Organization (WHO).

The COVID-MAP is updated weekly ill be produced weekly at the level of each Region and especially for the islands at Municipality level.

In the last few days, the number of confirm coronavirus daily infections have decreased, the number of deaths and intubations remains high and so does the positivity rate which has an average of over 5% from “safety” benchmark of 4%.

  • Saturday, April 9: 12,518 cases, positivity 5.26%; 51 deaths, 361 intubations
  • Sunday, April 10: 8,635 cases, positivity 5.71%, 54 deaths, 357 intubations

The government signals again and again that the last protection measures against Covid-19 , that is the mandatory use of masks indoors and the showing of vaccination or recovery certificate to allow access to restaurants and entertainment venues, are soon to be lifted, the country’s epidemiologists have not given the green light yet and are not expected to do so before the end of April.
