Electricity: Gov’t to support households, businesses with €2 billion in Sept

Government assistance for households and businesses faced with high electricity bills will total two billion euros in September, Finance Minister Christos Staikouras announced on Monday. The governmental announcement comes right after power suppliers revealed exorbitant price hikes of 65% got September over the weekend.

The FinMin revealed also that dozens of measures “are on the table” for the economic package to be announced at the Thessaloniki International Fair (TIF) but final decisions will depend on the available fiscal space and the government’s priorities.

Staikouras said further that household incomes have been bosted through lower unemployment, increased revenues from tourism, continued investments and an increase in the minimum wage.

With regard to the payment of taxes, he said that Greeks were managing to pay the amounts owed without a fall in deposits.

This good performance was being offset by high inflation and problems in the energy sector, where the state had set up lines of defense to support households and enterprises, he added.

According to Staikouras, the final decisions will depend chiefly on the rate of GDP growth in the second quarter of 2022, tax revenues in August and revenues from tourism in July and August.

PS The Greek FinMin obviously lives in another planet and hasn’t hears of inflation 11.5-12%, upcoming price hikes of over 10% in food and other basic items and rising unemployment at the peak of the tourism season, only to mention a few of the current issues troubling a large part of the commoners…

  1. A special thanks to all the puppets that were so scared and brainwashed that they helped the government in promoting lockdowns, vaccinations and other non-working measures, and accepted to cover their faces with masks during the last 2 years. You got the inflation that you were asking for. But hey, I was just called a conspiracy theorist when I predicted this 2 years ago. Next step (or next conspiracy theory, … lol): food shortages in the supermarkets !! But the government will again come with a solution, no worries….

    • There are already food shortages, that has always been part of the plan, aka “control the food supply” – control the people.

Way too many people just don’t seem to have the first clue about what is really happening e.g. the quickening pace of WEF’s “by 2020 you’ll own nothing and be happy”.

      • Most people are just simply stupid. And too ignorant to use any kind of critical thinking. They are easy to brainwash as they get their news from social media and maybe read the headlines of few articles here and there. And the aggressive “blah blah conspiracy theorist herp derp misinformation” angle really works on people because they are scared to be seen as “the crazies”. Just sad that they will never know what hit them. A lot of it is already here and they are still clueless. They’ve been conditioned to accept less of everything. Less food, less money, less health, less resources for anything and less freedom and they are just spreading their cheeks and taking it

  2. Please forgive my rudeness…but this government is a pile of BOLLUCKS and don’t care two hoots about it’s people………………….

    • For sure, they do not give a flying duck! K Mitso is part of the Davos Group (as are E Macron, J Turdeau, Jacinda Ardern et al).
