An earthquake measuring 4.3 on the Richter scale occurred in the sea region off the island of Lefkada on Tuesday morning, short before 7 o’ clock.
According to the Geodynamic Institute of he National Observatory of Athens, the epicentre was located in the sea, 8 km west-southwest of the village of Vassiliki on Lefkada.
Its focal depth was 16.5 km.
Media reported that the tremor shook the whole island.
No injuries or material damages have been reported, so far.
Seismologist Gerasimos Papadopoulos told media, the earthquake is no reason of concern. He estimated that this was a main earthquake, noting that there is not strong seismic activity, and smaller aftershocks may follow..
He underlined that the earthquake took place in an area with a very significant seismic potential.
It is recalled that a tremor with magnitude 4R occurred off Vassiliki on August 14, 2022.
