School principal allegedly asked €50 from migrant child for Ochi Day wreath

A school principal allegedly asked immigrant parents for 50 euros for the wreath their child would lay on the anniversary of the national Ochi Day, on October 28, as the young students was entitled to.

The CEO of pollster Metron Analysis, Stratos Fanaras, made a sensational complaint about a school principal who allegedly asked immigrant parents for 50 euros for the wreath.

According to the complaint, this was the trick allegedly invoked by the school principal so that the particular child would not be the one to lay the school wreath, after the child won the honor through the school lottery.

The child’s parents, however, not only did not give the 50 euros, telling the principal that what he was asking for was unprecedented for the school’s annals.

Then they looked for instructions on the internet, they made their own laurel and myrtle wreath so that the child can lay a wreath.

According to the complaint posted on FB on Thursday night:

In a certain school, a child who was born here in our country and whose parents had come to our country as economic immigrants, was drawn in a related process of his school to lay his school’s wreath at tomorrow’s celebration in the holy memorial of the fallen and full of joy and honor he went and announced it to his parents, who the next day in turn went to the school to discuss the procedures.

The principal didn’t like the result of the lottery…
So what did he thought of? He demanded from the immigrant parents to pay for the wreath themselves with 50 euros, against the tradition that the school buys it, hoping that maybe the “foreign” poor parents will not pay the amount and thus he himself will get rid of the unpleasantness result of the lottery…and he had partly guessed right…indeed the parents did not give him the fifty saying that what he was asking for was unprecedented in the annals of the school…

But they did something much better

After going online and reading how to make a laurel and myrtle wreath, mother, father and daughter gathered the materials and made a beautiful wreath with their own hands, and tomorrow the child will lay it with joy and honor!

This is how fascism is defeated in my eyes, this is how it was defeated then, this is how it is defeated now.”

In comments under the denouncement post, Greeks urge CEO Stratos Fanaras to make an official complaint to Education Ministry.
