Greece’s health authorities announced on Tuesday 55,917 coronavirus cases confirmed in the week of November 7-13, ISO week 45/2022.
In its weekly covid-19 bulletin, National Public Health Organization (EODY) said also that 115 Covid-patients died in the same period of time.
The number of intubated Covid-patients stood at 81 on Nov 13.
The 55,917 coronavirus cases are equivalent to 5,360 coronavirus cases per 1 mln people (weekly change: -9%).
26% of the new weekly infections are reinfections.
All confirmed infections since the pandemic began are 5,306,482.
A total of 1,292 Covid-19 patients were admitted to hospital during the week of November 7-13, while the total number of Covid-19 patients discharged from hospitals for the same week was 1,152 (165 as weekly average, or -8% compared to previous week).
81 hospital patients were on ventilators on November 13. Their median age is 76 years and 98.8% have an underlying condition and/or are aged 70 or more.
During the week of November 7-13 there were 115 deaths from Covid-19, or 11 deaths per 1 mln people (weekly change: -22%), bringing the total of pandemic victims since the pandemic began to 34,024.
Of the dead 96.1% had an underlying condition and/or were aged 70 or more.
The median age of those who were infected was 39 years of age, and of those who died it was 80.
Omicron sub-variants “Kentauros”, BQ.1 and XBB increasing
Cases of the new sub-variants of the Omicron mutation are increasing in Greece, as announced by EODY.
According to data from the National Network of Genomic Surveillance of the SARS-CoV-2 virus, which operates under the coordination of the EODY, an additional 316 samples are included that have been selected randomly or targeted and relate to the period 10 October 2022 to 07 November 2022.
An Omicron strain (B.1.1.529) was isolated from all samples.
Of these, 32 (10.1%) were identified as BA.2, 7 (2.2%) as BA.4 and 277 (87.7%) as BA.5. Of the BA.2 strains, 21 (65.6%) were identified as a sub-variant of BA.2.75 and 10 (31.2%) as XBB, while of the BA.5 strains, 29 (10.5%) were identified as a sub-variant of BQ.1 and 2 (0.7%) as BQ.1.1. – more details here in Greek
