Greece to take another step against notorious tax evasion

Greece’s Independent Public Revenues Authority, AADE, will tighten its fight against the notorious tax evasion and will expand the use of electronic payments through POS to more professionals.

AADE has reportedly assumed a series of initiatives which start to unveil one after the other which significantly limit the action space of the tax evaders by profession.

Lawyers, for example, but also doctors, real estate agents and plumbers, taxi drivers and nursery owners show little activity in electronic payments although they are obliged to do so.

In 130 professional activities, the number of professionals using POS terminals was 10 or fewer.

2023 is a very important year for this endeavor as a lot of significant project will be implemented with top of all the interconnection of cash registers with POS and Taxisnet.

In this way all the figures of the receipts will be sent in real time to the tax bureau and the authority will have a clearer picture.

It is also planned the mandatory installation of POS to all the sectors of self-employed and enterprises.

It is noted that POS in not mandatory in a series of enterprises as for example, gyms, parking, cinemas, theaters, car rental and others.

PS another way to facilitate the issue is to give incentives to citizens to ask for a receipt. If, for example, the tax office does not accept medical and dentist expenses – that can be hundreds of euros – as such, it is understandable that the patient and the doctor agree for payment under the hand minus the 24% Value Added Tax. A generous reduction for the patient, a nice tax evasion for the doc. The same applies for the other sectors, as well.

  1. ..of course it would never occur to them to stop treating the entire population as if we’re inmates in a giant prison.. only more and more ‘tightening of controls’ on everything… meanwhile, the oligarchy makes off with millions and simply legalize themselves by decree, and where will you find a court or judge in this country to say otherwise?

  2. One thing to remember: the tax you pay goes to civil service! If you dont pay your tax you cant expect to get health care, for example!!! Or who should pay for your visit at a doctor or, even worse, if you need a surgery. Yes, you pay a small amount of the visit but the rest comes from your tax, especially when it comes to a surgery that always costs a lot of money! Or the police service, if your are threatned or have a break in in your home….. The water in your tap, the garbage that are picked up and so forth…..Think about that! It all comes from the tax, so pay it!!!
