Rena Koumioti, one of the most significant singers of the New Wave genre in Greece passed away at the age of 81.
Her death was announced in a post on Facebook on Monday.
Koumioti was one of the foremost representatives of the Greek New Wave in the 1960s and 1970’s.

Her breakthrough came while singing at the Apanemia musical club in Athens in 1968, when she was heard by song writer Lefteris Papadopoulos who then asked her to sing with Giannis Poulopoulos for the Dromos (Greek: Ο δρόμος, “The road”) album.
Her recording career was short — her last album recording was in 1980 — but significant.
For a period of eight years she had lived in Canada where she married her second husband and had a son.
She remained active in live performance until her death.
