Polling centers in Greece closed at 7 p.m. sharp on Sunday, May 21, and the results of Exit Polls conducted in collaboration of six pollsters were released right afterward.
EXIT POLLS:
- ND 36-40%
- SYR 25-29%
- PASOK 9.5-12.5%
- KKE 6-8%
- Greek Solution 3.5 – 5.5%
- MeRA25 2.5-4.5%
- PLEYSH 2.2-4.2%
Seat projection based on Exit Polls:
First official results based on 80% of counted votes are expected around 9-9:30 p.m.
Based on Exit Polls alone, conservative New Democracy will not be able to form a government alone though, due to the electoral system.
Even with 40% ND gets a government of 126 seats, which is far less than the 151 at least needed.
PASOK leader has rejected any scenarios for coalition government with ND, before the elections.
Some ND official already hinted to second round of elections in early July.
Interesting to see is also the rate of abstention which is currently estimated at a high rate of 52%.
