SYRIZA: Tsipras blames opposition parties for its elections defeat

Leader of left-wing SYRIZA and main loser of the Sunday elections Alexis Tsipras said “I am not giving up the fight, I am here!” leader of left-wing SYRIZA and main loser of the Sunday elections Alexis Tsipras said on Monday after a meeting of the party’s Executive Office.

Instead of self-criticism, Tsipras blamed other opposition parties for SYRIZA’s defeat with a spectacular difference of 21% lower than conservative New Democracy.

Tsipras attacked socialist PASOK/KINAL, communist KKE and Yianis Varoufakis , saying that the “progressive forces had a front almost exclusively against SYRIZA” and that they “celebrated more than the New Democrats for the drop in the percentages”.

“In the next elections we have the responsibility to prevent the prospect of an uncontrollable ruling prime minister. I have learned in difficult times to take responsibility and not give up the fight. I am here. I will not give up even now, even in the middle of a difficult struggle.

Yesterday was election day. Today is the first day of the next election battle. In yesterday’s elections the ND won, but at the same time the strategy of simple proportionality was defeated, Tsipras added..

The progressive forces to which we reached out for cooperation throughout the pre-election period had a front almost exclusively against SYRIZA. And yesterday, at the time of a historic electoral victory of the right, they celebrated more than the New Democrats for the drop in the percentages of SYRIZA. We were looking at the country. They at their own field.

In contrast, Tsipras’ cousin and SYRIZA MP Giorgos Tsipras approached the party defeat more realistic and wrote on a social media post:

“We were led to an incredible liquidation, to a landslide. The season in the playground ended with a slap. They spat on us, it’s not raining. The slap is the last chance to get serious. The second chance that was given to us with the 32% of 2019 no longer exists,” Giorgos Tsipras underlined and added:

“The crushing defeat of SYRIZA has two dimensions. The liquidation of the last few days from the own goals that led to the massive punishment of SYRIZA. People told us “enough is enough”. They said it just the last few days to us instead to the ND of price hikes and wiretapping. And we were led to an incredible liquidation, to a landslide. What did people say “enough is enough”? That’s the one question.

But even before the liquidation, the correlation after four years of Mitsotakis was not what it should be. It was not the fault of the polls, the owned media, the customer relations. For those who wanted to see it, SYRIZA did not convince as an alternative. Most partners didn’t want to see it. Why; This is the second question.”

On posts on social media, disappointed SYRIZA voters expressed the wish that Tsipras resigns on Monday or as soon as possible. However, this is politically difficult due to the upcoming second round of elections on June 25 and almost impossible in a party that operates with voting and decisions taken by multiple fractions and groups.

Hiding its eyes from disturbing light as my kitty does will not help the left-wing party.

If SYRIZA rejects self-criticism and does not explore with honesty what it did strategically wrong in the four years as main opposition and in the few weeks of pre-elections period, I see the party falling to 12% in June and back to 3.5% in the next parliamentary elections.

Kitty can hide its face as long as she will, but she is not exposed to votes.

  1. Beautiful and SMART cat !!!
Give her a hug and some special treat from me 😉 🙂

  2. I think some events are too big to forgive and forget. In 2015 Tsipras chose to hold a referendum on whether Greece should agree to the Eurogroup bailout conditions. He got an overwhelming “No” and immediately signed the bailout. That was one of the biggest political mistakes I have seen in my lifetime. Leaders who promise something really big and then fail to deliver are doomed.

you’re wrong as Greek voters are known to have a Gold fish memory. in May they chose “stability” over SYRIZA’s confusing statements in the last 2-3 weeks.
