Greece’s National Meteorological Service EMY issued a RED ALERT warning on the prolonged heatwave forecast to hit the country with soaring temperatures reaching up to 43 degrees Celsius as of Wednesday, July 12, 2023. The heatwave has been named CLEON and is included in the Dangerous Weather Phenomena with a duration of at least six days.
High temperatures are forecast to reach a peak on Friday and Saturday, July 14-15.
The highest temperatures are expected to climb to 42°-43 °C.
According to the available data, there will then be a small drop in maximum temperatures after Saturday but they will remain at high levels for at least one week.

EMY HEATWAVE RED ALERT
The extended area of high pressure covering the coast of Africa and the western and central Mediterranean and accompanied by very warm air masses is gradually expanding further east and causing heatwave conditions from Wednesday (12-7-2023) until early next week.
This heat wave receives the name CLEON and is included in the Dangerous Weather Phenomena with a duration of at least six days with warmer days on Friday (14-7-2023) and Saturday (15-7-2023).

High temperatures will prevail mainly in the central and southern continental regions. The maximum temperature value will reach:
a. in the northern continental regions 36°-37° C and in central Macedonia 37°-38° degrees Celsius.
b. in the rest of the mainland 38 to 39 and in the interior of Sterea and Thessaly 40 degrees Celsius.
c. in the islands 32 to 33 and in the Ionian Islands, the Dodecanese and southern Crete 35 degrees Celsius.

High temperatures will prevail in almost the entire country:
a. In the northern continental regions, the maximum value of the temperature will reach 37 to 38 degrees and in central Macedonia and the interior of Epirus, 39 to 40 degrees Celsius, while its minimum values will range from 27 to 29 degrees Celsius.
b. In the rest of the mainland the maximum value of the temperature will reach 39 to 40 and in the interior of Sterea and Thessaly 41 degrees Celsius, while its minimum values will range around 28 to 30 degrees Celsius.
c. In the islands the maximum value of the temperature will reach 33 to 35 and in the Ionian islands, the islands of the eastern Aegean, the Dodecanese and southern Crete 36 to 37 degrees Celsius, while its minimum values will range from 25 to 27 Celsius degrees.

a. In the northern mainland, the maximum value of the temperature will reach 38 to 39 degrees and in central Macedonia and the interior of Epirus, 40 to 41 degrees Celsius, while the minimum values will be around 30 degrees Celsius.
b. In the rest of the mainland, 40 to 41, in the interior of Sterea and Peloponnese, 41 to 42 and in the interior of Thessaly, 43 degrees Celsius, while the minimum values will range from 29 to 31 degrees Celsius.
c. In the islands 36 to 37 and in the Ionian islands, the islands of the eastern Aegean, the Dodecanese and southern Crete 38 to 39 degrees Celsius, while the minimum values will be around 28 to 30 degrees Celsius.
According to the latest forecast, although there is a slight drop in temperature on Sunday, July 16, heatwave conditions will persist until early next week.
