Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis spoke of important differences with Turkey, but also the opportunity to agree on a “roadmap for the demarcation of maritime zones.”

According to daily ethnos.gr, Mitsotakis made these statements coming to the NATO summit in Vilnius and before a meeting with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Wednesday.

“We are not condemned to live in a constant climate of tension,” he said characteristically. “I believe that both with a strong popular mandate we can take a first step towards normalizing relations,” he added.

In this context, the Prime Minister emphasized that “a positive climate has been formed in the last months in the relations between our two countries and I hope and expect that we can build on this positive climate and make some important steps forward, steps forward that will obviously be to the benefit of both our peoples.”

Regarding the deal between NATO-Turkey-Sweden, the Greek PM said “Sweden’s accession to NATO as the 32nd member of the Alliance is very good news.

“This makes us all safer and stronger. Looking forward to the process being completed!”, he noted on a Twitter post.
