Exhausted firefighters after the multi-day battle with the fires in Rhodes, were seen sleeping on the floor or chairs of the ferry taking them back from the island to Piraeus.

The pictures were published by Seasonal Firefighters on Facebook, who complained complained about the travel circumstances during a journey that last over 12 hours.

They published the pictures with a biting comment:

“We are proud of the firefighters”
“They deserve a Bravo”
“With self-sacrifice they operate on the fronts”
Meanwhile, the respect for the firefighters…
Firefighters slept on the floor of the ship and on the tables when they returned from the fires in Rhodes.
Since they didn’t bring the police to beat you, you can be thankful, colleagues…

The firefighters who fought for more than eleven days against the fires on the island of Rhodes sleeping on the ferry floor and the tables of economy lounge.

News website 902.gr reported that the firefighters boarded on the ferry at 5 p.m. Sunday, July 30, and would arrive at Piraeusport at 8 a.m. on Monday.

Το επιτελικό κράτος δεν φτάνει που δεν μερίμνησε να επιστρέψουν στα σπίτια τους με αεροπλάνο, δεν μερίμνησε ούτε για καμπίνες στο πλοίο της γραμμής…

Passengers who saw firefighters sleeping wherever they could on the ship were outraged that no provision was made to facilitate their return during a journey that lasts over 12 hours, Alpha TV reported.

According to news website in.gr, sources from the Fire Service said that every effort was made to find cabins for the firefighters on the return ferry from Rhodes to Piraeus, but due to the season and because the travelers had already booked cabins for a long time, this was impossible.

Fact is: when firefighters fight non-stop against the fires or even die while on duty, they are “our heroes” as the government and the mainstream media cheer.

When the duty is over and the fire danger averted, then neither the Minister in charge nor the Fire Department not even the Prime Minister care to lease or deploy an airplane or helicopters to bring the heroes back home.

what a SHAME!

  1. A disgrace and insult to the fire service.
No doubt politicians would refuse to go by ferry even with a cabin. Their lives aren’t worth a fraction of someone who puts their life on the line. Shame on Greece!

  2. To be honest it does not surprise me.The government doesn’t give a ****
    Human rights practically non existent.

  3. This has made me feel both sad and angry. The ferry company and local authorities would have had a pretty good idea that several passengers would be service men and women returning home from wildfire duty on Rhodes.

The least they could have done was to supply mattresses, pillows, towels, and complimentary meals and beverages. These people are heroes and should have been treated as such.

Just imagine how they must have felt when they were trying to get some sleep on a hard floor or chair with bright lights shining down on them all night while holidaymakers and tourists were safe, satisfied and suntanned in their berths. The same people whose holidays were made possible due to the bravery of the poor guys still smelling of smoke now sleeping on the floor like vagrants.

    Ντροπή, Ντροπή, Ντροπή!
