Samos: Turkish man arrested for hit-and-run Swiss tourist

A Turkish man has been arrested on the island of Samos and faces felony charges as well as for abandoning his victim over a hit-and-run that took place on Wednesday afternoon. His severely injured victim, a Swiss tourist, died a few hours later in the hospital.

The victim was a 42-year-old Swiss woman who was holidaying on the island. She was reportedly on a motorcycle when she was hit by the rental car the Turkish man was driving.

Passersby found the Swiss tourist lying in the street injured and alerted an ambulance. Despite efforts by doctors at the local hospital, the woman died of her injuries a few hours later.

The incident took place at the 4th km of the road Pythagorio-Vathy.

According to samos24.gr information, the Turkish driver had allegedly driven on the opposite lane and crashed on the victim’s bike.

According to ANT1, the Turkish driver was hiding behind bushes to avoid his arrest. He was reportedly located by a dog who started barking. His owners informed the police who came and arrested him

Local media samosvoice.gr reported that the man is a businessman who assigned two lawyers for his defense. He is to be taken to investigating prosecutor on upcoming Monday and remains in custody until further proceedings are decided.
