The most spectacular summer shower of shooting stars, the meteor shower of Perseids, reaches its peak in the night from Saturday, August 12, to Sunday dawn, August 13, 2023. The meteor shower is visible on the sky of Greece and on the north hemisphere sky in general.
Those who will stay awake will have the opportunity, if the weather conditions allow it, to observe the phenomenon.
The Perseids are one of the most spectacular meteor shower phenomena every year because of their brightness and speed as they have long fiery “tails”.
Comet Swift-Tuttle
Made of tiny space debris from the comet Swift-Tuttle, the Perseids are named after the constellation Perseus. This is because the direction, or radiant, from which the shower seems to come in the sky lies in the same direction as Perseus. The Perseids are widely sought after by astronomers and stargazers because most years at its peak, one can see 60 to 100 meteors in an hour from a dark place.
Despite the fact that they originate mostly from north-northeast of the constellation of Perseus they appear everywhere on the sky and not at a specific part of the sky every year.
What Time is the Meteor Shower Tonight
The table is updated daily when the Perseids are active and shows the position of the radiant in the sky for the upcoming night. The Perseids will be active starting 17 Ιου 2023. Use the date drop down above the Interactive Meteor Shower Sky Map to change dates.

PS As every August, we make a wish when we see a shooting star. And recall whether our last year’s wish came true…
