No Metro service in Athens; buses operate as usual, Sept 21

There is no metro service in Athens on the strike day Thursday, September 21, after workers decided to ignore a court order ruling their strike was “illegal”, while metro workers unions argued they had only declared “work stoppage” not a “strike.”

In this sense Metro Line 1 -urban train ISAP -, 2 and 3 will not operate at all.

The tram operates until 13.30 as the union had declared a “work stoppage.”

Meanwhile, a court ruled also that the work stoppage announced by the union of the bus drivers was also “illegal.” Buses operate as usual.

The court orders issued late on Wednesday, less than 12 hours before the mobilization of public transport union and the reaction of the latter has created big confusion to commuters as not everyone joined the 24-hour strike.

PS the country is falling apart to such extend that we can no longer organize a proper mobilization in public transport…
