The ‘Fofi Gennimata’ Breast Cancer free mammogram programme will be extended to women aged 45-74, from 50-69 years so far, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said on Wednesday on the occasion of World Breast Cancer Day.
The “Fofi Gennimata” programme is currently addressed to 1.3 million women aged 50-69 and provides a free digital mammogram, a free examination by a specialist and a free ultrasound.
New beneficiaries in the 45-74 age group will be notified with an sms.
Beneficiaries can seek public or private health facilities and have the screening and results free of charge.
The Committee of Public Health Experts (PHC) has reportedly examined the revision of the age limits in accordance with the new European guidelines.
Pm Mitsotakis said during the meeting on Wednesday that more than 300,000 women made use of the prevention programme implemented since last year and that 15,000 cases of breast cancer at early stage have been detected.
