You think Valentine’s Day is celebrated with airy red hearts, balloons and ribbons, roses bouquets, aphrodisiac aperitifs and light gourmet meals? Not in Greece. To honor the day, a grill-house on the island of Crete prepares a huge bouquet of pita-gyros stuffed with spicy grilled meat, french fries, tomatoes slices, chopped onions and fresh parsley, and of course also garlic tzatziki sauce.
The bouquet is wrapped in white paper, while a chic red ribbon holds the incredible creation together.
Total weight: 8.5 kg!
That is: Enough to send a romantic couple to the nearest kiosk for a barrel of coke and another one of digestive soda or to feed a crowd gathered for a small valentine-orgy… you know just to honor the day.
The grill-house near Heraklio, Crete, seems to believe, though, that “love goes through the…stomach” and has been preparing these original creation on February 14 in the last couple of years.
On a post on social media, the grill-house notes that the Pita-Gyros bouquets are an idea born a few years ago and continues as people have showed a lot of interest.
“February 14 is Valentine’s Day and we want to share with you a story that fills us with pride. A few years ago, we inspired the gyro bouquet pie, a unique combination of flavors and aesthetics, which gave new life to a widespread symbol of Greek gastronomy. And now, we are happy to see that this idea has become loved and famous, especially for Valentine’s Day.
This day is an opportunity to express our gratitude to all of you who support us and give us the impetus to continue our work. The round pie bouquet is a way for us to thank you and share love and flavors with you.”
