A powerful mafia-style bomb exploded in a parking lot next to a fuel station in Piraeus in the early hours of Friday. Nobody was injured but the blast caused extensive damage to at least ten cars and broke windows and glass doors in adjacent building within a radius of more than 20 meters.

Residents of the area spoke of a “deafening noise” that woke them up in the middle of the night.
Fire brigades and police as well as bomb disposal teams of the Police rushed to the site.
Police suspects a strike in the “war of the night” between rival criminal gangs, noted newspaper tovima.gr.
State broadcaster ERT reported that police investigates links to the mafia-style execution of a gas station owner in Neos Kosmos suburb in January.
According to news website protothema.gr, the victim in Neos Kosmos was also owner of the fuel station in Piraeus, while a “tough godfather and well-known criminal” tried to acquired it but there was no deal with the fuel company.
Media report of a shooting incident targeting the gas station, that is just five steps away from the parking lot. Police speaks of the bomb as a “warning”, the second warning strike.
