A police officer was arrested on Thursday afternoon in Attica for pimping Ukrainian and Russian women. The arrest on Thursday followed an investigation by the internal affairs division that extended to almost half a year and after a tip off by an anonymous caller to police.
The 40-year-old officer confessed his participation in the pimping ring ring saying he did it because he was in debt that could not afford to repay.
He alleged that his role was limited to the transport of the women and he was being paid 20 to 30 euros per transport, daily ethnos.gr reported.
Investigation was launched on October 10, 2023, and police sources told the daily that the officer was very careful in his communications thus making difficult to his investigating colleagues to snap him.
“For two months when his phone was monitored, we could not easily document the tip off, because when he was talking on his cell phone he was very careful, while taking cover measures,” the sources added.
An intense activity, however, detected by mobile phone antennas in a specific area of Metamorfosi around a well-known half-board hotel was the green light for his arrest.
A search of his home followed, where 2 mobile phones, the sum of 3,035 euros, 12 cartridges of 5.56 mm caliber, an iron fist and 7 portable wireless transceivers were found and confiscated.
During interrogation, the police officer said that those involved in the pimping ring “trusted him due” to his status and because he spoke Russian.
Among others, he said that he has been doing this in the last six months.
He was led before a prosecutor on Friday.
