A temporary fix to the submarine pipe supplying water from the mainland to the popular island of Aegina in the Saronic Gulf was completed.
The island has been without running drinking water since January, 24, 2024.
The islanders can now have drinkable water, the Regional government of Athens announced on Monday.
Τhe results of the water quality measurements are reportedly expected on Tuesday, April 2.
“Our promises are never on paper. We reduced the timeline and proceeded to all necessary acts, observing all required protocols,” Attica Region Governor Nikos Hardalias said.
Hardalias also posted a 1.5-minute video presenting the issue as from the day a suit was filed at the Piraeus prosecutor’s office on February 2 against “unknown persons” for the damage as it suspected sabotage as in the past.
At some point later, media reported that the damage in the water pipe of Aegina was not the result of a sabotage but of a material failure.
