11-year-old girl Vassiliki who had gone missing in village Myrtia in southern Peloponnese on Sunday was found dead in a field on Monday. She had a stabbing wound in the neck.
Police has apprehended a 37-year-old man, an uncle of the girl, who has confessed the murder.
The victim’s body was found some 25 km away from the village Myrtia.
The self-confessed murderer has been accused of raping a minor below 15 years old in 2017. He was convicted for that crime but released on restrictions local ilialive.gr reported.
Victim Vassiliki was going on foot to her grandfather’s home in her home village Myria in the area of Pyrgos on Sunday afternoon when she was picked up her abuser and murderer.
Her missing was reported by her mother and an amber alert was issued.
A search operation was launched and in the context of police investigation CCTV footage from Myrtia village showed that the girl was picked up by her uncle, her mother’s brother, in his car.
The victim was identified by her mother late on Monday afternoon.
According to last minute information by local media, the girl was murdered with a screwdriver, the uncle confessed.
Police and forensic investigation continues. Officers try to find all evidence for the case such as where exactly the girl was murdered and whether she was sexually abused.
The local society is shocked, residents told ANT1 TV that the man was working in the fields for many years and is father to five children.
