Greece’s National Meteorological Service EMY updated on Friday its heatwave warning saying that high temperatures over 40 degrees Celsius will prevail in many parts of the country until Monday, July 22, 2024.
From Tuesday, July 23, onward there will be a gradual decline in temperature, both in terms of maximum and minimum values, which will be felt by the middle of next week in most areas.

✅On Saturday, July 20, temperature is forecast to reach:
a. in the northern continental areas 37-39° Celsius and in the rest of the continental areas 40° C and locally in the west 41° C.
b. in the Ionian Islands, the Eastern Aegean Islands and the Dodecanese 37-40° C.
c. in the rest of the islands 34-36 degrees Celsius.
d. in Attica/Athens 39°C and in the Prefecture of Thessaloniki 38° C.
✅On Sunday and Monday, July 21-22, temperature is expected to reach:
a. in the northern continental areas 38-39°C, in the rest of the continental areas 39-40°C and possibly locally 41° C.
b. in the islands of the Eastern Aegean and the Dodecanese 38-40°C.
c. in the rest of the islands 34-36°C.
d. in Attica/Athens 39-40° C and in the prefecture of Thessaloniki 38°C.

On the 11th day of this heatwave, that is yesterday, Thursday, July 18, maximum temperature of 43.1 degrees Celsius was recorded in Skala, Messinias, south Peloponnese.
