Ancient Health Practices in the Acropolis Museum

The Acropolis Museum participates in the celebration of the European Cultural Heritage Days 2024 with the thematic presentation “Ηealth: tracing a universal and timeless good”. It is a journey into the world of health and hygiene in antiquity, revealed by the relevant facilities in the ancient neighborhood that spreads out below the Acropolis Museum, but also by the multitude of objects on display in the newly established Excavation Museum.

Guided by the archaeologists of the Department of Educational Programs,visitors trace the ancients’ perceptions of health and hygiene, the ways and means they used to take care of the body and the soul, the scientific knowledge as well as the religious aspect they gave in order to secure the most precious good.

The program is align with this year’s pan-European theme “Tracing Routes, Networks and Links in Cultural Heritage” and is part of the general spirit of the Council of Europe “Europe, a common heritage”.

Program Details:

Date: Sunday, September 29, 2024

Times: 10:00 a.m. (English) & 12:00 p.m. (Greek). Duration: 90 minutes.

Participants: Up to 20 visitors per session. Reservations can be made through online booking at events.theacropolismuseum.gr . Group bookings (more than 10 persons) are not allowed.

Cost: Participation requires the purchase of a day ticket, with presentation of the reservation code at the ticket counter 20 minutes before the program begins. In case you need to cancel your participation, please inform by phone at (+30) 210 9000900 or in writing at [email protected].

In celebration, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 29, 2024, entrance to the Acropolis Museum exhibition spaces will be free for visitors.
