The same spot was flooded again several times, last time also in December.on
The problems were identified in a manhole pipe located on Poseidonos Avenue, with the cover “rising” and sewage spilling out onto the street again.
Due to the accumulation of water and sewage on the roadway, traffic on the route to Piraeus was interrupted for a while, while a crew of the water company EYDAP was trying to fix the problem.
Complaints indicate that the lid of the EYDAP pipeline’s manhole was “lifted” by the torrential rain, resulting in the sewage spilling out along with the rainwater, back onto the roadway.
Mayor of Alimos, Andreas Kondylis, confirmed the incident saying that the EYDAP crew had placed a truck is on the manhole lid to prevent it from being blown up.
“Fortunately, this time, we had the assistance of EYDAP, which is responsible for managing the sewage network, and thus we were spared the worst,” Kondylis told media.
He added that the specific sewer lid has been replaced in the past with a new technology one.
“The EYDAP car has parked with its wheel on top of the cover to prevent it from being blown up,” he noted, while he stressed the new technology of the lid.
This new incident comes just 20 days after the dramatic images that unfolded at the same spot. It was on December 26th when the roadway of the coastal road was covered with a foul-smelling mixture of water and sewage, which came from the sewer.
This resulted in the sewage together with rainwater spilling onto the roadway, flooding the avenue, houses and shops throughout the area from Alimos Avenue to Kalamaki Avenue.
