Femicide: Man strangles his wife, takes his own life

A 59-year-old man killed his 52-year-old wife and then he allegedly fled to a pen which he set on fire thus taking his own life.

Authorities in Serres, northern Greece, launched a manhunt on Thursday for a man who confessed to killing his wife.

Thursday morning, the man, a risident of Sitochori village by Serres in northern Greece, called the local police saying that he had killed his wife. “I killed my wife and I’m leaving,” he reportedly told the police. According to some media, the perpetrator had also warned that he would take his own life.

When police officers arrived at his home, they found the woman dead. According to preliminary information, the victim had been strangled.

The man had fled the crime scene and police started a manhunt.

A few hours later, a fire broke out in a pen outside the village. Police rushed to the area assuming that the perpetrator was burned to death.

A coroner has also rushed to the area, however, investigation continues, there is no official confirmation that the perpetrator was inside the burning pen but local media reported that the man burned to death..

According to local epiloges.tv, the man had been arrested in the past for domestic disturbances involving fights with his son.

Greece has experienced a series of femicide in the last couple of years, where women have been killed by current and former husbands or partners.

  1. I see you didn’t report on the woman who killed her husband and buried him in her back yard!! Ανδροκτονία!!! Androcide!! I hear you cry…. or maybe not. Please, at least try to show some semblance of neutrality when reporting on the news. P.S. there is no such word as ‘femicide’ it is known as ‘homicide’ no matter how many times you repeat it!
