While some of the EU leaders are meeting on Monday in Paris on Ukraine and the European Security upon an initiative of French President Emmanuel Macron, in Athens there is concern because Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis was not invited to participate.
“In Greece, some officials have expressed concern about not being offered a seat at the European table, as Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis was not invited,” noted daily tovima.com.
Government spokesman Pavlos Marinakis downplayed the significance of Greece’s exclusion, stating, “We are talking about an informal summit in which the largest economies in Europe plus Denmark, which had the largest contribution to military aid to Ukraine, participate.” He insisted that binding decisions on European defense policies would only be made at the European Council level and reaffirmed Greece’s commitment to Ukraine’s defense.
However, opposition voices in Greece have strongly criticized the government for allowing the country to be sidelined in key geopolitical negotiations.
According to SYRIZA leader Socratis Famellos, the absence of Greece from the Paris summit is indicative of a broader failure of foreign policy under the Mitsotakis administration.
“The exclusion of Greece from the European Summit on Ukraine taking place today in Paris […] demonstrates yet again how the government’s approach of being a ‘given ally’ to the U.S. has isolated the country. This policy, particularly regarding Ukraine, has reduced Greece from a supposed ‘regulator of geopolitical developments’ to a mere observer,” Famellos stated in a tweet. He further argued that the government’s approach, including sending military aid to Ukraine without parliamentary transparency, has weakened Greece’s ability to play a leading diplomatic role. PS Never mind, our Foreign Minister Giorgos Gerapetritis did indeed participate in the FMs meeting on the same issue and the shocking “cultural attack on Europe ” by U.S. Vice J D Vance at the Munich Security Conference last week..

It’s better that Greece didn’t participate in a meeting of warmongers trying to sabotage a peace process.
How did the war go for the warmongers? How would they be invited to the adults table in Saudi Arabia when Merkel and Holland openly admitted that they had no intention of following the Minsk Agreements and they were only there to buy time to train and arm Ukraine.
Now they will end up paying for everything, the Americans will make sure of that
“Warmongers trying to sabotage a peace process”??!! What planet do you live on? The warmongers in this scenario are Russia (which invaded Ukraine) and the USA for encouraging Ukraine not to remain neutral and actually signing a military cooperation agreement with it some time ago. More recently, the USA armed Ukraine and managed to dupe European countries into following suit.
Now that there is a change of regime in the USA, the EU and the UK are left in a pickle. All that Trump is interested in is money and mineral wealth. His idea of “peace” is to steal other countries’ assets to build luxury beach resorts (in Gaza) or to prop up a failing US economy with free raw materials (Ukraine). The fact that these moves create and artificial “peace” by destroying countries and their sovereign rights is of no interest to money-obsessed criminals, of which Trump is just one currently trying to subvert democracy and the post-1945 political consensus.
Oh, that’s right, Russia was ‘unprovoked’. I forgot about that narrative
There is a process commencing to stop the war between the adults that acknowledges the facts on the ground, that Ukraine is losing more people and land everyday.
The war has to stop and the Europeans are NOT interested in stopping the war as it’s ideologically unpalatable for them. So no, they stay at the kids table
So yes, they are the warmongers
Kindly refrain from misrepresenting my words. I did not state that Russia was “unprovoked:, but that it is a warmonger. This is an historical fact, whether you and other Trumpeteers like it or not. And your attempt at logic is risible: the two principal warmongers were, and remain, the USA and Russia. The EU is caught up in this global power struggle, and is clueless and disunified.
Of course, it now looks as if Trump will construct a self-interested deal or alliance with Russia (nothing to do with Ukraine), which is an equally serious threat to the EU. Nothing to do with “kids’ tables” and everything to do with global power. You need to grow up.
You seem to absolve all the European NATO members of being involved in any wars that USA was, I can’t remember a leader of NATO not being European.
I guess you also absolve those European NATO members for what they just helped to facilitate in Palestine.
Leave Trump out of this, this is about stopping war in a country that lost a million people, and many millions migrated. Its a war that should never have been set up to start, in the first place
Also any business alliance Russia and USA is no serious threat to Europe. Europe had its cheap energy from Russia and the prosperity it brought, but the children’s table clapped when the USA blew up our pipeline because of their ideological stupidity.
That’s my last interaction here, if KTG allows it.
yes, pls, last one
NATO is irrelevant. It was set up as a way for the USA to control the Europeans, and is massively funded by the USA. It should have been shut down in 1990 and the EU fund their own defence using the WEU framework. Our useless European politicians decided to carry on with the cheap option of NATO. We are now paying the price for their low IQs and even lower integrity over the last 40 years.
As for who blew up the pipeline, there is no consensus and no official government position on the investigations. Some reports blame the Ukrainians, others say different things. Again, you persist with this childish analogy of children’s tables and adult tables: this is not an intelligent approach to understanding global power, both economic and military.
America is stabbing Europe and Ukraine in the back. But Europe was stupid to go along with America’s geopolitical games in Ukraine. The words “F the EU” spoken by Victoria Nuland should have been taken as a warning. Ukraine should have been left alone. Anybody with a bit of historical knowledge or common sense could have known that you step on a hornets’ nest there. And now Putin will get his red lines anyway, plus extra territory and Europe can pick up the pieces. Europe would be stupid to send peacekeepers there. That would be an absolute suicidal recipe for disaster. UK wants to do it because it is the only way for them to remain relevant in Europe and they have hated the Slavs always anyway.
Europe had better wised up that America is not its friend. This is a good opportunity to build a truly European defense for which the blueprint is laid down in art. 40+ of Lisbon Treaty.
But knowing Europe and the EU, they will screw that up as well.
Europe is old and fragile, has no vision for the future other than spending for its friends
What friends?
America surely isn’t.
friends who sell weapons, fighter jets etc
Oh them.
Yes, regrettably.
