Mayor of Mantoudi-Limni-Agia Anna, Giorgos Tsapourniotis, told local evima.gr, that “the earthquake that occurred at night with an epicenter between Prokopi and Pelion and the second that followed, at the same point, caused damage to buildings.”

The mayor stressed that he has already contacted the minister in charge asking for a team of experts to inspect the houses and the buildings.

Head of the Earthquake Planning & Protection organization, Efthymios Lekkas, stressed to local eviaonline.gr that based on the seismic history of the area “seismic sequences appear to last 2 to 3 days, but they do not develop into high magnitudes. The area does not produce large earthquakes, but it has a habit of persisting.”

He added that after the 4.5 Richter earthquake, 5-6 smaller aftershocks have also been recorded which confirms the usual local seismic behavior.

Lekkas stated that there is no reason, for the time being, to visit the area, while he called on citizens to remain calm and to follow instructions of the local authorities and the Civil Protection.
