The US Department of State has denied reports in the Greek press claiming that there is a complication in the appointment process of Kimberly Guilfoyle, as US Ambassador to Greece.
Responding to a relevant question, a State Department spokesperson noted that the reports are inaccurate.
“They are not accurate. The State Department looks forward to Kimberly Guilfoyle advancing the America First agenda in foreign policy in her capacity as US Ambassador to Greece,” the spokesperson stressed, according to Athens state-run news agency AMNA.
Last week, Greek media claimed that Guilfoyle would not receive the green light from the US Senate due to tax and other financial issues and her appointment to Greece maybe be blocked. Some media even reported that the US Embassy in Athens will not hold the traditional 4th July celebrations as the position of the Ambassador remains empty.
Former US Ambassador George Tsounis left Athens beginning of 2025.
Guilfoyle is allegedly scheduled to arrive in Greece in the first week of September. It is reportedly estimated that by July 15, her candidacy will have passed the Senate’s International Affairs Committee, then it will go to the Plenary.
