Appalling transfer conditions of undocumented migrants and escorting police officers, from Heraklio on the island of Crete to Kavala in northern Greece.
At least 700 people are crammed together onboard of warship “Chios” of the Greek Navy, making a 35-hour journey in miserable conditions where temperatures reach 50 degrees Celsius!

The report is not based on some “rumors” but on the uniformed personnel who escorting the migrants and who already expressed strong protests about inhumane conditions and thus in a letter to their police and political leadership as they stated below.
First of all, the journey was delayed because the ship’s hatch would not open. Instead of the scheduled departure on Saturday, it finally left on Sunday for a 35-hour journey under conditions that were literally suffocating, to the point of fainting, reveals local media cretalive.gr in its exclusive story and pictures.
No ventilators, no dignity
“They were forced to open the hatch briefly at night to let in some “fresh” air before people started fainting one after the other…”

Foreigners and police officers were crammed in, trapped like rats, while extremely high temperatures, reaching 50 degrees Celsius, developed inside the ship.

Heraklio Police Officers’ Union complaint
It was police officers and specifically the Heraklio Police Officers’ Union who complained about the inhumane conditions of detention and transportation of immigrants by warship.

The Heraklio Police Officers’ Union sent a letter to the Minister of Citizen Protection, the Chief of the Hellenic Police, the Heraklion Police Directorate, the Police Association and the members of parliament of the Heraklion Prefecture on the occasion of the conditions of the transfer of immigrants on the warship “CHIOS”, speaking of inhumane conditions.
Citing reports “from our colleagues,” the Union speaks of the situation on board as “stifling and inhumane, both for the migrants and for the police escorts. The temperature inside the ship reportedly exceeded 43°C, while the ventilation was almost non-existent, resulting in intense discomfort for all those on board.”
The police officers denounce “the small and unsuitable space on the ship, where in conditions of extreme heat the situation became suffocating.”
“This dangerous and exhausting transfer prompted the police officers to denounce the conditions under which the transfer took place. It is noteworthy that, according to testimonies, they were forced to open the ship’s door at sea at night, so as not to collapse due to the lack of air.”
“The treatment of both migrants and uniformed personnel cannot violate basic principles of safety, hygiene and dignity” the Union stressed in its letter to its leadership.
“We await official answers and call for an immediate review of the way in which such missions are carried out in the future. Human dignity is non-negotiable.” the Heraklio Police Officers’ Union underlines as posted on news website news24/7.gr
Upon arrival in Kavala, the migrants will be distributed to facilities in Kilkis and Serres, cretalive.gr reported.
Maybe the hardliner Migration Minister, Thanos Plevris, will be pleased to see these pictures from appalling conditions of migrants’ transfer, as he – and his successor predecessor Makis Voridis who recently resigned due to EU Funds scandal – has several times warned undocumented migrants that they are not welcome to Greece. Last month the toughest ever migration law passed by the Greek Parliament.

Those migrant when will contact with their family.please inform and report again about migrant condition this moment and what process Greek.gov. will do….
