A fire broke out in a wooden touristic boat docked at the Marina Zeus of Piraeus in the early hours of Thursday. The fire quickly spread to nearby boats.
Four of the yachts have reportedly sank during the fire extinction operation.
While investigation on the causes of the fire is underway, it is estimated that it was caused by a short circuit.
An anti-pollution vessel of the Coast Guard remains in the sea area, along with a patrol boat, while anti-pollution booms have been deployed to prevent any possible fuel or hazardous substance leakage.
The authorities are closely monitoring the situation for any potential environmental impact.
So far,no injuries have been reported, while a special Fire Department unit is investigating the exact causes that led to the fire.
