Cultural Events in Greece during the August Full Moon 2025

Greece’s Culture Ministry will organize for one more year a series of events to celebrate the Full Moon on August 9, 2025. On the same night, also the Acropolis Museum will operate with extended opening hours.

Culture Ministry Program 

In coordination with the General Directorate of Antiquities and Cultural Heritage, the Culture Ministry offers free entry to selected archaeological sites, museums, monuments, historical sites and museums, on the night of the Full Moon, Saturday, August 9, 2025.

Full Moon 2025

One hundred (114) fourteen archaeological sites, historical sites, museums and monuments, throughout the country, will welcome the public under the light of the moon.

Events will be held at seventy-one (71) archaeological sites and museums, while approximately forty-four (44) will remain open to the public with free admission.

This year’s event will be accompanied by events that will take place from August 8 to 13, according to the program that has been posted and which includes theatrical performances, music and dance events, stargazing, storytelling and guided tours, organized by the Services of the General Directorate of Antiquities and Cultural Heritage and the General Directorate of Restoration, Museums and Technical Works, many of which in collaboration with the local government and local associations.

We invite you, therefore, this year for the 25th year, to enjoy the moonlight at archaeological sites, museums and monuments, on the night of August 9, the night of the August Full Moon of 2025.

Acropolis Museum Extended Program

The Acropolis Museum will celebrate this year’s August Full Moon on Saturday 9 August 2025 with extended continuous opening hours from 9 a.m. until 12 midnight. Last admission to the ticket counters and to the Museum Shops will be at 11:30 p.m. For visitor entrance to the Museum exhibition galleries the general admission fee will apply.

Other than the Museum’s permanent collection, visitors will have the opportunity to visit the exhibition Allspice | Michael Rakowitz & Ancient Cultures, presented by the Acropolis Museum and NEON in the Museum’s Temporary Exhibition Gallery. This exhibition initiates a deep and meaningful dialogue between contemporary works and ancient artefacts. It presents the multifaceted work of internationally acclaimed contemporary artist Michael Rakowitz interacting with ancient artefacts from the Middle East and southeastern Mediterranean. Entrance to this exhibition is free.

Like every Saturday, the Museum restaurant on the second floor will be open until 12 midnight. For those wishing to visit the Museum restaurant on the second floor, a free admission ticket must be collected from the Ticket Desk and a reservation is required by telephone or email (+30 210 9000915, [email protected]).

Finally, on Saturday 9 August 2025, the Excavation Museum will be open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
