UPD Femicide: Woman stabbed to death by her partner in N. Athens

A 47-year-old woman was brutally stabbed to death by her partner on open street and in daylight in Halandri suburb of northern Athens at noon on Monday.

Police arrested her 28-year-old partner and perpetrator short time later.

According to initial information, a witness called the police saying that a man was chasing a woman down the street with a knife.

Police officers rushed to the area only to find the victim dead with multiple stabs at the entrance of the apartment building where she lived.

The officers found two knives the perpetrator used in the attack; something police evaluated that the man was determined to kill the woman.

The perpetrator allegedly claimed to police that he was angry with her because she was “talking” bad about him to his friends with the result that they had isolated him and blocked him on social media.

He claimed further that they had recently met at a community soup kitchen and that both had financial problems.

He indicated revenge as his motive.

UPDATE

Victim and perpetrator had met at the soup kitchen in January and were neither in relationship with each other -as the perpetrator claimed – nor they lived together. In fact the victim had complained to local police station about the man’s behavior accusing him of stalking her.

According to a statement issued by Greek Police early afternoon on Monday, the 47-year-old had reported to the police last March that the 28-year-old was following her.

“The 28-year-old had been referred to a police station for civil disputes between them, without, during the process, any ex officio prosecuted offenses being reported against her. Furthermore, no relationship or cohabitation was established between them,” the statement stressed.
