Speaking at the teleconference of European Union leaders on Tuesday, Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis underlined the need for an immediate ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine .
The teleconference was convened by European Council President Antonio Costa on Tuesday to assess Monday’s meetings in Washington on Ukraine.
The Greek prime minister noted the positive point that after Monday’s meetings that the next steps for a meeting between the presidents of Ukraine and Russia are visible.
The Greek PM also expressed his satisfaction over the United States’ intention to support the security guarantees, while he reiterated Greece’s fixed stance on the inviolability of borders.
Worth noting that US President Donald Trump was very clear on Monday saying that ceasefire was not necessary but both sides should proceed directly to a peace agreement. Adopting fully the position of Russian President Vladimir Putin, Trump made clear to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky that he has to give up some his country its territories.
Point is that many European leaders appear to agree with each other on how to proceed the issue, however, Trump and Putin are too powerful to take their stance into consideration.
