A court in Athens declared the four-hour work stoppage of the Greek Air Traffic Controllers scheduled for Thursday, August 28, as “illegal”.
Wednesday morning the Single-Member Court of First Instance of Athens deemed the Air Traffic Controllers’ work stoppage as “unlawful” due to disruptions it would cause at the peak of the summer holiday season.
Therefore, the work stoppage, originally scheduled to take place from 9:00 to 13:00, will not take place, scheduled flights will not be affected and will operate as usual.
The action was part of the 24-hour nationwide strike announced by the Civil Servants Union ADEDY. The strike is a protest against the government bill introducing changes to disciplinary law for civil servants.
Participants are reportedly civil servants, municipality workers, hospital doctors and nurses and other sectors of the public service.
So far, there have been no strike announcements by the unions of the public transport means.
A protest gathering is scheduled at 10:00 at Sytagma Square opposite the Greek Parliament.
