Metro stations and taxis in Greek capital Athens will be equipped with defibrillators for emergency cases, the Health Ministry has announced.
The devices in all Athens metro stations will be donated by a big supermarket group and implemented by the Infrastructure & Transport Ministry.
The program providing defibrillators to taxis is on voluntarily basis and will be inaugurated by the Health Ministry.
All drivers wishing to participate in the program participating as well as the the staff of urban transport will be trained in First Aid and in use of the defibrillators, that the equipment may be used effectively in every incident.
The defibrillators will be connected to a central technical system of First Aid that will provide directions remotely for the management of the incident and will be also provide information on whether additional assistance is needed. This will incorporate updated European models of prevention and safety in a practical way.
Installation of defibrillators in the Metro will begin immediately, while the first equipped taxis and trained drivers will shortly follow, state-run news agency amna reported.
PS It is certainly a good move as there is a lot of criticism to the Health Ministry for delayed arrivals of First Aid ambulances or paramedics/doctors on two wheels. So “personal responsibility” seems to be the answer to all deficiencies in the country…
