Starting on upcoming Saturday, September 13, 2025, public transport in Athens will operate on 24-hour basis every Saturday.
The tram, metro lines 2 and 3 and selected bus lines covering crucial locations of the Attica basin will operate on a 24-hour basis every Saturday.
The measure is expected to give a safe and reliable transport alternative to Athens residents and visitors throughout the day and night, enhancing the overall experience of traveling within the city and making it more open.
Frequency of Public Transport schedules on Saturdays
Metro Line 2: Between 22:00 until 10:00 the following day, will run every 10:50 minutes until 02:00, every 15 minutes from 00:20 until 7:00, and every 10:50 from 7:00 until 10:00.
Metro Line 3: Trains will run every 9 minutes from 00:20 until 2:00, every 15 minutes between 2:00 and and 7:00, every 10 minutes between 5:30 and 10:00, while trains to the airport will run every 36 minutes.
Trams will run every 15 minutes until 00:30, every 25 minutes until 5:30 and every 12 minutes after that.
Ten new bus lines will also operate on a 24-hour basis, in addition to exist 24-hour and night buses. They include the following buses: 221 (Panepistimioupoli-Akademia), 224 (Kesariani-El. Venizelou), 421 (Agii Anargyri- Agia Paraskevi), 608 (Galatsi – Akadimia – Zografou Cemetery), 703 (Piraeus – Agii Anargyri – Ag. Eleftherios), 842 (Perama-Korydallos Station), 049 (Piraeus-Omonia), A15 (Larisis Station – Dasos), B11 (Vathy Square-Ilion-Petroupolis), B12 (Attiki Station-Ano Liosia), 040 (Piraeus-Syntagma), 11 (Ano Patisia-Neo Pagrati-Nea Elvetia), X93 (Kifissos Intercity Bus Station – Athens Airport), X95 (Syntagma – Athens Airport), X96 (Piraeus-Athens Airport), X97 (Athens Airport-Elliniko Station).
The four permanent night bus lines include the 400 (Piraeus-Doukissis Plakentias Station), 500 (Piraeus-Kifissia), 790 (Glyfada-Peristeri-Anthoupolis) and X14 (Syntagma-Kifissia).
The measure goes back to an initiative by the Transport Ministry in May 2025a few months ago, actually aiming to prevent fatal traffic accidents due to alcohol consumption and after taxi drivers rejected the proposal of a “special fare” for drunken customers over the weekend.
