Hardly has the new Traffic Code being implemented in Greece and police carried out over 14,000 control checks in Attica over the weekend. The checks led to more than 2,500 confirmed violations and 6 arrests.
The special police operation was took place from September 12 to 15 by police officers of the Traffic Accident Control and Prevention Teams (O.E.P.T.A.) of the Attica Traffic Directorate, to monitor the implementation of the new Traffic Code, especially in the prevention of driving under the influence of alcohol.
According to official data, a total of 14,078 inspections were carried out.

2,643 violations were confirmed, such as exceeding the maximum permitted speed limit, not wearing a protective helmet, using a mobile phone, violating traffic signals, etc.
In addition, 6 drivers under the influence of alcohol with a test result above 0.60 mg/l were arrested and taken to the competent prosecutor.
Furthermore, 389 vehicles were immobilized, of which 199 were transported by crane.
500 driving licenses and 134 registration permits were revoked.
Controls for the implementation of the New Traffic Code and the prevention of driving under the influence of alcohol will continue with unabated intensity, the Hellenic Police has stressed.

It is certainly about time. There still needs to be a bigger police presence in the suburbs as this is where many people drive recklessly. No helmets, no seat belts, using mobile phones and worse, unrestrained children. We counted numerous people yesterday braking the law. Imagine the revenue they could collect!!! Maybe use some of it improving roads, hospitals, educating some of these idiots etc….
