The U.S. Senate confirmed the appointment of Kimberly Guilfoyle as the new US Ambassador to Greece on Thursday, finally putting an end to the long waiting for the filling of ambassador’s chair in Athens that has been empty since beginning of the year. Guilfoyle is the first female U.S. ambassador to be serving in Greece.
She was among 48 candidates put to a vote after Republicans changed Senate rules to require a simple majority instead of 60 votes, speeding up approval of government appointments.
The new ambassador is expected to arrive in Athens in mid-October, after being sworn in in the Oval Office of the White House and having her appointment signed.
In a message on X (formerly Twitter), she expressed her gratitude to Donald Trump and described it as an “honor” to serve as the first female United States Ambassador to Greece.
I am profoundly grateful to President Trump and the U.S. Senate for their trust and confidence in me. It is the honor of my life to serve as the first female Ambassador of the United States to Greece. https://t.co/2iJtWmI3uC

She previously served as an assistant attorney general for California and an advisor to Donald Trump. She was engaged to Donald Trump Jr. and was later married to current Democratic California Governor Gavin Newsom.
