Greeks and other Flotilla activists incl. Greta Thunberg to be deported to Athens

27 Greek activists of “Global Sumud Flotilla” and other foreign participants including French, Italians and Swedish Greta Thunberg will be deported from Israel and fly with a special flight of the Greek Foreign Ministry on Monday.

The flight is scheduled to arrive at the Athens International Airport early afternoon on Monday.

The Foreign Ministry to be in constant communication with the Israelis for the conclusion of the procedures.

LATEST: According to latest information by state broadcaster ERT, the special flight departed from Athens for Eilat airport short after 11:00 and it expected to return to the Greek capital around 15:30 noon.

The deportees are among the hundreds of international activists who participated in the Flotilla aiming to break the Israeli blockade of Gaza and bring humanitarian aid to Palestinians.

So far, 137 activists have been deported out of approximately 470 who took part in the mission.

Legal representatives of those detained have raised concerns over detention conditions, alleging that some activists were denied necessary medication. Israeli authorities, however, have denied all allegations.

The deportation process of the remaining detainees is expected to continue over the coming days.
