Inflation in supermarkets stood at 1.08% in October 2025, according to a survey by the Greek Research Institute of Retail Consumer Goods (IELKA).
Τhe survey revealed that inflation in supermarket chains was close to +1.08% in October 2025 compared to October 2024, at lower levels compared to the period May-August 2025.
In November 2024-October 2025, an increase of +0.85% was recorded.
The largest price decreases in October 2025 compared to October 2024 were recorded in the categories of fresh fruits and vegetables (-8.06%), detergents and cleaning products (-5.10%), grocery foods (-4.77%), stationery, cosmetics and personal hygiene products (-2.51%) and disposable household goods (-1.24%).
According to the survey, the decreases recorded were attributable to the normalization of the market and the decrease in producer prices for certain products. The largest decreases were recorded in fresh fruits and vegetables (favored by weather conditions recently), in detergents and cleaning products and in grocery items (due to the de-escalation of the price of olive oil).
PS Stupid me – and million other Greeks – believed the government claiming it forced supermarkets to decrease prices in thousands of goods.
