Athens Metro Line 2 stations between Dafni and Neos Kosmos will temporarily shut earlier for approximately one month, due to works to replace the rails that starts on Tuesday and is scheduled to finish by December 12, 2025.
More specifically, the stations Neos Kosmos, Agios Ioannis and Dafni will shut at 21:40 – 2.5 hours earlier than usual – on all days between and including Sunday and Thursday.
According to Urban Rail Transport S.A. (STASY), this is because a contract signed on August 7 for the replacement of 32 km of the Athens metro’s rails is entering its main phase of execution. The contract mainly concerns the original core of the network on Lines 2 and 3 (Sepolia-Dafni and Monastiraki-Ethniki Amyna) and is expected to be completed by the end of 2026.
It was planned and implemented as part of the precautionary maintenance and targeted upgrade of the network to maintain safety and reliability standards.
The work on the underground network will take place during the night, at different locations, while alongside the work to replace the rails, there will also be work to install a 5G network, thus completing two major interventions at the same time, with the minimum disruption of the metro network’s operation.
While the works are taking place, trains on Line 2 will operate in the sections between Elliniko and Agios Dimitrios and from Anthoupoli to Syggrou Fix.
The last trains before the three stations shut will depart:
– at 21:40 from Syntagma to Elliniko
– at 21:44 from Neos Kosmos to Elliniko
– at 21:51 from Neos Kosmos to Anthoupoli
– at 21:45 from Agios Ioannis to Elliniko
– at 21:50 from Agios Ioannis to Anthoupoli
– at 21:47 from Dafni to Elliniko
– at 21:48 from Dafni to Anthoupoli
On the section from Agios Dimitrios to Syggrou Fix, OASA will temporarily operate a circular bus line that stops at all the closed stations, which will start and end on Syggrou Avenue, near Syggrou-Fix station.
STASY issued a statement noting that the temporary measures, while an inconvenience to passengers, were essential in order to complete this important work.
