An Athens Court sentenced two former protected witnesses in the Novartis corruption case to more several months in jail for false testimony and false accusation against prominent politicians. The sentences are suspended for three years.
Maria Marangeli, a former secretary of Novartis executive Konstantinos Frouzis, was found guilty over statements made against minister Adonis Georgiadis, central banker Yiannis Stournaras, former minister Andreas Loverdos and former premier Antonis Samaras, and received a 28-month suspended prison sentence.
Destabasidis, a former Novartis executive, was convicted over false statements made against minister Adonis Georgiadis, Loverdos and former minister Nikos Maniadakis.
The court did not grant the defendants the mitigating factor of good prior behavior which they had previously requested through their lawyers. [kathimerini]
