Severe frost with extremely and low temperatures were recorded in Greece in the morning hours of Tuesday, January 13, in local places in the mainland and especially in the northern parts of the country.
The lowest minimum temperature was recorded at the Nevrokopi Fortress with -16.8 °C.
According to the network of automatic meteorological stations of the National Observatory of Athens / meteo.gr, the eight lowest minimum temperatures during the morning hours of Tuesday are presented in the table below.

-16.8 to -12.9 degrees Celsius in four areas of Nevrokopi, -12.2 C in Neochori in Halkidiki, -11.9 in Vlasti in Kozani, -11.1 in Vyrsyni by Rodopi and -10.0 in Dotsiko in Grevena.
According to Greek meteorologists, temperatures will be on a gradual rise as of tomorrow, Wednesday, January 14, and reach even +17 degrees Celsius in Crete.
Northerly winds will be blowing with intensity of 5 Beaufort.
PS Even if I live in the south suburbs of Athens, I know I’d need the fire place when I feel that tab water is close to freeze my fingers tips, and it is +7 C on my balcony at 8 p.m..
Now preparing the fire for some roast chestnuts. I hope it works, I haven’t done it for years…
