The economic sentiment index in Greece declined slightly in January, dropping to 105.4 points from 106.9 points in December 2025, according to the Economic Outlook survey released by the Foundation for Economic and Industrial Research (IOBE) on Tuesday.
IOBE attributed the decline to weaker expectations in the services sector and falling trends in consumer confidence, while expectations for industry were essentially unchanged. In construction, by contrast, private projects continued an upward trajectory to reach one of the highest levels on record, while there has been a slight improvement in retail trade.
As regards households, Greek consumers remain the most pessimistic in the European Union, making more negative predictions about their household finances and the economic situation in the country in general than in the previous month, while there is a decline in their intention for major purchases.
“The new year begins with households that are more hesitant, while for businesses the outlook remains largely stable. In the next months, economic sentiment is expected to be decided by factors such as inflation, investment trends and opportunities, as well as developments in the European and global economy, where the situation remains volatile,” the survey said.

On the bright side Greece has paid its debt to the EU early. So the rich and powerful are happy it’s just the ordinary people who continue to suffer.
