Farmers and livestock breeders will hold a protest outside the Greek Parliament in downtown Athens on Friday, February 13, with the aim to press their demands for higher subsidies, tax cuts, lower production cost and measures against the sheep and goat pox.
They will stage their protest with their tractors, buses and other vehicles in front of the Parliament, spent the night at Syntagma square and go back to their places on the following day, on Saturday, February 14, a representative told state broadcast ERT.
The decision for the protest in the Greek capital was taken yesterday, Wednesday, during a meeting with representatives of farmers and breeders associations at Nikaia by Larissa central Greece.
Participants will be from the regions of Larissa, Karditsa and south, due to proximity to Athens, their representative told ERT.
Last month, farmers and breeders ended their over 50-day-long protests where major highways and border crossings were blocked with tractors and agricultural machinery.
The protests ended on January 21, after a meeting with the Prime Minister, the Agriculture Minister and other officials.
Protesters had said right away that the government concessions were not sufficient with the government to claim it had to fiscal space to offer them more.
But even these concessions have not been implemented, so far, with farmers and breeders to say that they don’t see any move in the direction of materializing what was agreed between protesters and the government.
