Pensioners rally in Athens demanding increases, protesting high cost of living

Thousands of pensioners gathered in Athens on Wednesday holding a protest rally and demanding a raise and better living conditions.

“We do not tolerate high prices, pension increases now!” was the main slogan of pensioners’ association that had called for the protest and a march to the Finance Ministry.

They demanded an increase in all pensions and the reinstatement of the 13th and 14th pensions, emphasizing that the “high cost of living is unbearable.”

The Coordination Committee of the Struggle of the Cooperating Pension Organizations presented the demands for pension increases, the institutionalization of payment of the loss from the index in its entirety, payment of the 13th and 14th pensions, as well as payment of illegally withheld retroactive payments to everyone. For Health, they demand the recruitment of nursing staff, doctors and the recruitment of staff at EFKA, the National Social Security Agency.

The Coordinating Committee announced a new round of mobilizations with a new nationwide gathering on March 20, 2026 at Syntagma Square with a march to the Prime Minister’s office.
